I can't remember if the FBA core uses a console window by default, but if it does it needs to be disabled. I have used the stand alone on its own but I didn't see any compelling reason to use it over Reatroach since RA was easier to set up controls, had better shaders and easier to manage save states. All the videos I've seen for FBA have been older versions of LB. The roms just don't launch. I went the FBA route a long time ago because the list of games I wanted to play was pretty much covered and the rom set wasn't bloated like Mames.
